{"id":1508,"date":"2024-07-12T08:20:50","date_gmt":"2024-07-12T07:20:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.redstarwealth.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1508"},"modified":"2024-07-11T17:32:16","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T16:32:16","slug":"consistent-wellbeing-can-improve-our-wellbeing-sleep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.redstarwealth.co.uk\/blog\/consistent-wellbeing-can-improve-our-wellbeing-sleep\/","title":{"rendered":"Consistent Saving Can Improve Our Wellbeing and Sleep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new study released by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.ac.uk\/geography\/research\/pfrc\/themes\/capability-behaviours-wellbeing\/savings-wellbeing\/\">University of Bristol\u2019s<\/a> Personal Finance Research Centre has found that consistent saving can improve our wellbeing and how well we sleep!<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How Does Saving Affect Our Wellbeing?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University of Bristol\u2019s research report investigated the positive impacts that saving can have on our wellbeing, both in the short and long-term.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They found that those who save money:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tend to have higher mental wellbeing scores<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Were more satisfied with their lives, with 47% of non-savers reporting being \u2018mostly\u2019 or \u2018completely\u2019 satisfied with their lives, compared to 63% of those save who \u00a3300-\u00a3399 a month<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Were more optimistic about the future<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Slept better at night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They found that saving helped to improve wellbeing by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Removing the need to borrow and take on debt through creating a safety net<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Preventing hardship by having an emergency fund. 12% of those who hadn\u2019t saved in the past 10 years were behind on their bills in 2021-22, falling to 2% among those who managed to save every other year<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building financial resilience to help meet financial goals. As you can see, those who saves more tended to be more likely to report sleeping well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As has been explored by us at Red Star before, financial concerns can have a significant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redstareducation.co.uk\/blog\/how-money-concerns-can-impact-your-mental-wellbeing\/\">impact on our mental health<\/a>, just as our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redstareducation.co.uk\/blog\/how-mental-health-issues-can-impact-your-finances\/\">mental health can also affect our finances<\/a>. You guessed it\u2026 our finances!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneyandmentalhealth.org\/money-and-mental-health-facts\/\">The Money and Mental Health Policy Institute<\/a> found that out of 5,500 people with experience of mental health problems, 86% said that their financial situation had made their mental health problems worse. On the flip side of this then, positive financial habits, such as regular saving, can help improve our wellbeing!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, we must also acknowledge that being able to save is a privilege that not everyone has at all stages in their lives. Sometimes we simply don\u2019t have the spare cash to put away and may be in a position where we have to prioritise other things, such as clearing debts.
